Emerald's Garden To Table
Emerald Elementary school joined in partnership with non-profit Garden to Table in 2013. After the completely new building was built, Emerald students planted in new beds in the spring of 2018. The garden program provides students with a living classroom, giving students hands-on education in food awareness and environmental sustainability. Through planting, harvesting, and tasting fresh fruits and vegetables, students learn about making healthy food choices and expand their knowledge of the ecosystems we all depend on.
Students in every grade participate in the planning, planting, care, cultivation, harvest, and eating garden produce. Lessons take place in the Spring and Fall. The garden lessons provide a wonderful chance for kids to learn about healthy eating and nutrition, plants and gardens, cooking and cultures, and environmental sustainability. These lessons are related to the standards followed by our school district, and let the kids get outside to learn these standards in a fun, hands-on way.
If you would like to help in your child's garden lessons, let your child's teacher know. Lessons typically last less than one hour so it's an easy way to volunteer if you don't have a lot of time.
